Case Update
One of the suspects in this case was arrested on December 4, 2009 and is now incarcerated in the Harris County Jail. The second suspect has been identified and UHDPS is actively working the case.
Suspect Description: Two black males between the ages of 18 – 25 years old. The first male was approximately 5’ 10’’ tall, with a dark complexion and a thin build, wearing a red knit cap, dark colored jacket with light colored designs on the jacket and a dark shirt under the jacket. He was also wearing long dark colored shorts with designs on the back pockets, tennis shoes with long dark colored socks. The second male was approximately 6’ 1” tall with a dark complexion and a thin build wearing a red colored jacket with light colored writing across the chest. He also wore dark colored pants with a design going down the right leg which stopped at the knee and print on both back pockets. Neither male appeared to have any facial hair.
Weapon: A handgun with a wooden handle.
Vehicle: There were no vehicles involved in this case, both suspects fled on foot.
Synopsis: On Thursday, December 3, 2009 at approximately 5:46 p.m. two UH students were robbed in the Cullen Oaks residential area. The students reported they were in a study area inside the complex when two males entered the room. One male told the students to give them their property and displayed a handgun in his waistband. The second male remained at the door and stood as a lookout. The students advised that the suspects took their backpacks which contained cellular phones, laptops, books, an IPOD and other miscellaneous items. The students advised the suspects immediately left the area after taking their property. The suspects were seen on video leaving Cullen Oaks, fleeing east towards Cullen Boulevard. The students were not injured in the incident.
This incident is being actively investigated by the University of Houston Department of Public Safety (UHDPS). If you have any information regarding this incident, or can identify the suspects please contact UHDPS at 713-743-3333.
SAFETY TIPS:
Confrontations can occur without provocation, through no fault of your own. When such confrontations do occur, there are some actions you can take:
- BE ALERT!!
- Be cautious when approached by an unknown person on the street, even the nicest person can have ill intent.
- Remain as calm as possible.Your own initiative and clear thinking are your best defenses.
- The University has more than 70 Emergency call boxes placed strategically around campus, use them! The call goes directly to the UHDPS Dispatch Center.
- Report the incident. Call the police immediately and report what has happened. Call (713) 743-3333 or 911.
- Do not walk alone, if at all possible walk in groups.
- Try to notice details. This can allow you to provide the police with detailed physical and clothing descriptions of the person(s) involved.
- If a vehicle is involved, try to note the vehicle's license plate number or the vehicle's manufacturer, model and color or any other identifying features.
