January 9, 2012
As of 3:45PM, the front responsible for today’s severe thunderstorms is moving out of the area and into the Gulf of Mexico. Expect moderate rainfall throughout the afternoon with heavy downpours possible in isolated areas. The University of Houston is advising the UH community to avoid flooded areas, and to not attempt to drive across water-filled roadways. The following locations on the UH campus are still experiencing flooding:
Lockwood underpass
Old Spanish Trail underpass and Spur 5
Please refer to Houston Transtar at http://www.houstontranstar.org/ in order to view flooded roadways and traffic for your afternoon/evening commute.
In addition to the flooded roadways above, please be advised that some UH Facilities are experiencing flooding and localized response where available is being dispatched. Dispatched crews are attempting to respond as well where roads are passable. We are experiencing some response delays as travelers are becoming stranded on campus and blocking response and roadway access.
University officials ask that you do not travel on campus at this time and remain in place until the storm subsides to ensure your safety and improve facility response time where possible. Facility Emergencies should be called into the Facilities Service Center at 3-4948. For public safety assistance, call 911 for emergencies or (713) 743-3333 for other assistance.

3800 block of Wheeler St. (Near the Child Care Center)
Wheeler St. between Calhoun and Spur 5

]]>There has been a major accident at the intersection of South Lockwood and Munger. This intersection is just north of I-45, close to the Elgin/Lockwood underpass. The vehicle sheered a utility pole at this intersection which has affected power in the area. The traffic lights on the northbound I-45 feeder road are not operational. It is unknown when the power will be restored. The City of Houston Police Department is currently working the intersection, but please use alternate routes to avoid delays.
]]>The thunder storm that just passed through has knocked out the traffic lights on the east side of campus, (Elgin, Calhoun and Spur Five). Cullen Boulevard and Scott Street may be better alternatives to leave campus.
Please treat all intersections in which the lights are out as a four way stop.
]]>Maintenance work on Entrances 1 and 4 is planned to begin Monday June 20, 2011, and should last for approximately one week.
Concrete work at these entrances will result in lane restrictions and traffic delays. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when traveling through either of these entrances. Due to the amount of work being performed at Entrance 4 drivers may want to take an alternate route if trying to access the Welcome Center Garage from Wheeler.
Parking and Transportation Services will work to minimize the disruption to drivers, but asks everyone to be aware and cautious when traveling through these work zones.
]]>During the summer months, METRO Rail Line construction will be taking place along and on the outer roadways of the campus. Please expect delays until the construction is complete. Arriving a little earlier to campus is highly recommended. The need for an alternate route may be necessary. The construction is expected to be complete by August, 2011.

Graduation ceremonies at the University of Houston begin tomorrow (May 13) and continue through Saturday (May 14). For those traveling to campus on Friday, the UH Department of Public Safety has provided some timely suggestions to help your day run smoothly.

]]>On Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. the March of Dimes March for Babies will take place on the University of Houston campus. Expected attendance is 30,000 – 35,000. Parking lots 12B, 15D and 15F are closed for the staging area. All other parking lots on the west side of the campus are being utilized for the participants to park in. The walk starts at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to end by 12:00 p.m.

If you are going to be coming to the campus before 12:00 p.m. please be prepared for delays.
