Cullen Boulevard

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, the northbound lanes of Cullen Blvd. between Entrances 13 & 14 will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Northbound traffic will be diverted to one of the southbound lanes. During lane closure, a crane will be set to lift mechanical equipment to the roof of the Science Teaching Lab Bldg. In the event of inclement weather, this work will occur on Sunday, May 20, 2012 instead. Please see the map for details.

Due to University of Houston Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 11^th and Saturday, May 12^th, please expect major traffic delays on Cullen Boulevard, Elgin Street and Scott Street. Holman Street will be blocked off to through traffic to accommodate the flow of pedestrian traffic walking to Hofheinz Pavilion.

UHPD expects delays all day Friday, (7:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.) and on Saturday, (7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) on the streets listed above.

Please consider using alternate routes if you are traveling to campus on Friday or Saturday.

University of Houston Traffic Alerts

Ron Paul Rally – Hofheinz Pavilion

On Friday, April 27, 2012 between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. there will be a political rally in Hofheinz Pavilion. Expected attendance is 3,000 – 4,000. Parking for the event will be in the 16 Lots; this will cause delays on Cullen Boulevard as guests cross Cullen Boulevard at UH Entrance 16. Please consider using alternate routes if you are arriving or leaving campus between 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

March of Dimes for Babies Walk-

On Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. the March of Dimes for Babies will take place on the University of Houston campus. Expected attendance is 30,000 – 35,000. Starting Friday evening, parking lots 11A, 12A, 12B, 15D and 15F will be closed. On Sunday all other UH parking lots on the campus will be utilized for the participants to park in. The walk starts at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to end by 12:00 p.m.

On Sunday several streets will be impacted by the walk:

Cullen Boulevard will be closed from Elgin to North MacGregor
Holman will be closed from Cullen to Scott Street
Wheeler will be closed between Spur 5 and Calhoun
The Cullen at Wheeler intersection will be closed temporarily at the start of the walk until all the walkers clear the Intersection
M. L. King will be closed from Old Spanish Trail to Wheeler
Calhoun will be closed from Wheeler to UH Entrance 19
University Drive will be closed between Calhoun and Spur Five
UH Entrance 19 will be closed between Calhoun and Entrance 18.

If you are going to be coming to the campus before 12:00 p.m. please be prepared for major delays.

Special Olympics Run

This coming Sunday, April 21, 2012, Spur 5 from Old Spanish Trail to the Elgin Underpass will be closed from 6:00am to 10:00am for a Special Olympic fund raising fun run. Please use caution when traveling to the University of Houston this coming Sunday. Please consider using alternative routes if traveling to the campus this Sunday.

Downed Traffic Light Lines on Roadway at Cullen At Wheeler

There are two traffic lights guidewires laying across the roadway on Cullen and across the roadway on Wheeler.

Wheeler westbound lanes at Cullen are closed to through traffic and the Cullen northbound lanes at Wheeler are closed to through traffic.

Please use alternate routes to avoid the Cullen at Wheeler Intersection.

Final Advisory: UH Campus Street Flooding and Facility Emergencies

January 9, 2012

As of 3:45PM, the front responsible for today’s severe thunderstorms is moving out of the area and into the Gulf of Mexico. Expect moderate rainfall throughout the afternoon with heavy downpours possible in isolated areas. The University of Houston is advising the UH community to avoid flooded areas, and to not attempt to drive across water-filled roadways. The following locations on the UH campus are still experiencing flooding:

Lockwood underpass

Old Spanish Trail underpass and Spur 5

Please refer to Houston Transtar at http://www.houstontranstar.org/ in order to view flooded roadways and traffic for your afternoon/evening commute.

In addition to the flooded roadways above, please be advised that some UH Facilities are experiencing flooding and localized response where available is being dispatched. Dispatched crews are attempting to respond as well where roads are passable. We are experiencing some response delays as travelers are becoming stranded on campus and blocking response and roadway access.

University officials ask that you do not travel on campus at this time and remain in place until the storm subsides to ensure your safety and improve facility response time where possible. Facility Emergencies should be called into the Facilities Service Center at 3-4948. For public safety assistance, call 911 for emergencies or (713) 743-3333 for other assistance.

University of Houston Traffic Alert

There has been a major accident at the intersection of South Lockwood and Munger. This intersection is just north of I-45, close to the Elgin/Lockwood underpass. The vehicle sheered a utility pole at this intersection which has affected power in the area. The traffic lights on the northbound I-45 feeder road are not operational. It is unknown when the power will be restored. The City of Houston Police Department is currently working the intersection, but please use alternate routes to avoid delays.
